Module 1b Hazard Perception Test
You can take module 1a and 1b tests in any order, but they must be passed both within 2 years to get your theory test certificate.
Video Test
As this test is not on the road you might think it’s easier and you don’t have to prepare for it. This would be a mistake, as it’s worth taking the time to practice spotting hazards, as you want to ensure you achieve the best score you can. The test is to see if you are good at predicting something that will cause you to need to take action, such as changing speed or direction. This is called a developing hazard.
This test is made up of 19 video clips. These short films of everyday road scenes will each have at least one developing hazard, but one clip will have two. You click the mouse when you spot a hazard developing and you will be given a score depending how quickly you spotted the developing hazard.
If you spot a hazard developing as soon as possible you will get 5 points, as the time goes on this will drop until it reaches no points for clicking too late. You need a score of at least 67 to pass the Module 1b Hazard Perception test.

Tips for Success
Practice will help you to be familiar with the video test format, and the types of hazard you’ll see. It will also teach you the best time period to click the mouse.
Despite just watching videos you need to stay alert, this test is a simulation to assess how you deal with hazards, so you need to be as alert as you would be behind the wheel.
Don’t over click – if you just keep clicking the mouse you won’t get any points. Only click when you spot the hazard, and only click once then. You won’t lose points if you get it wrong, you can continue the test and click again when you spot the right answer. You will only score nothing if you click repeatedly or in a pattern, this is to stop cheating.
Stay calm! Even though it’s a test if you’re well prepared you will be able to pass. At Kim Driver Training you can be sure you will have the best training and preparation for all of the tests, and driving challenges ahead.
